Residents may have noticed that reflective “Slow Down” signs have recently been installed around the neighborhood, several along Winslow Drive, with one on Pohick Station Drive at the intersection with New Road.
They have been placed there as a response to a long-term problem of vehicles (both personal cars and commercial trucks) speeding in our neighborhood, primarily when traveling downhill on Winslow Drive, but also occasionally when turning left from New Road onto Pohick Station Drive.
This is a particular concern in our community due to the young children that live there who ride scooters and play on our streets, who are not easily seen due to the large hills on Winslow Drive and the blind curve at the New Road intersection.
As we all know, our neighborhood is without sidewalks. As such, sharing our roads responsibly and keeping within the 25 mph speed limit are critical to the safety of everyone in our community. Everyone needs to do their part, as a parent, driver, and adult, to ensure that they and their children are doing their best to make themselves visible, be aware of their surroundings, obey the rules of the road, and watch out for those that are putting others at risk.
We have a lovely neighborhood and want to keep it that way, but it takes all of us doing our part to ensure that happens.
